California State Assemblyman Chuck DeVore endorses Jesse Petrilla

Monday, June 28th, 2010

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA - Monday, June 28, 2010 - Jesse Petrilla, candidate for Rancho Santa Margarita City Council, today announced the endorsement of California State Assemblyman Chuck DeVore.

“I’m honored to have the support of Chuck DeVore. He shares my deep concern for our future, and has been a tireless fighter for the taxpayers of California,” Petrilla said. “He will be an asset to my campaign, and I welcome him to my team.”

“Jesse Petrilla’s public service is motivated by a deep love of country and an abiding drive to do the right thing,” DeVore said.

DeVore currently represents the CA 70th Assembly District, which includes a half-million people in Orange County. He serves as the Vice Chairman of the Assembly Committee on Revenue and Taxation, the Veterans Affairs Committee, and the Joint Legislative Audit Committee.

DeVore is a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army retired Reserve, and was elected to the State Assembly in 2004 and reelected in 2006 and in 2008.

Rancho to become a mega-city?

Friday, June 25th, 2010

I recently took Rancho Santa Margarita’s City Council to task for two of their recent votes. One of these votes, cast by the three council members up for re-election, may eventually destroy the small town atmosphere we in R.S.M. have all come to love. They voted recently to take no position on adding the communities of Coto de Caza, Wagon Wheel, Las Flores and Stonecliffe to Rancho’s sphere of influence, which gave the agency LAFCO the green light to do so June 9th, a first step toward annexation which I wholeheartedly oppose. They voted to take no position?? What kind of leadership is that.

Please read the following excerpt from my speech that I gave before the city council:

To the three members of the council up for re-election this November. Your decision to reverse your previous opposition to LAFCO’s expanding our small community’s sphere of influence is outrageous to the residents of our city. This reversal gave the green light to LAFCO to set the ball in motion for future annexation of Coto de Caza, Las Flores, Wagon Wheel & Stonecliffe, a move which could ultimately bankrupt Rancho Santa Margarita. If you are cutting police and other services to our current residents, how would you ever expect us to pay for services to 21,000 others in those largely residential communities that provide little revenue. Additionally, but most importantly, it would change the flavor of our community forever from a small village into a mega-city, and the residents are not happy one bit about this prospect.

It is a wonder what could have changed your mind so starkly from your previous publicly stated strong opposition just last year.

Volunteers wanted!

The election on November 2nd will be an opportunity to choose a new city councilman for Rancho Santa Margarita. We are facing tough times, and tough times call for tough leaders.

I have a proud record of service in Rancho Santa Margarita. I am a Vice President of the R.S.M. Business Alliance, and have experience with federal, state, county, and city government.

As councilman, I will always be a strong voice for public safety, fiscal responsibility and limited government. But I need your help to attain victory.

Please let me know if you can volunteer to walk your neighborhood for my campaign. We will need to build a broad coalition between now and November, and I want you to be a key part of my team.

best,

Jesse Petrilla
